Course Information
All NISOD Learning Scenarios courses:
- Are web based/distributed and facilitated (faculty-to-faculty)
- Are structured as a course (orientation, syllabus, assignments, ongoing discussion threads and assessments) lasting 4 to 6 weeks
- Utilize an electronic case study and employ collaborative and problem based learning techniques
- Leverage the power of story, simulation and role-playing and foster reflection, judgment and deep insight
- Are designed to be integrated with other professional development activities
What are the NISOD Learning Scenario Course Goals?
- Establish an outline learning community for new, experience and adjunct faculty
- Encourage self- and group-reflection on the principles and practices of good teaching
- Provide tools, resources, and faculty-to-faculty guidance to improve the quality of teaching
- Assist faculty to design and manage enriched learning environments for students
- Define and demonstrate learning-centered approaches to instruction
- Guide faculty in planning assignments, activities and assessments that will facilitate student achievement
- Assist faculty to accurately evaluate student's progress toward outcomes
- Provide a working knowledge of learning styles to assist learners in acquiring information and demonstrating skills
